How We Prayed One Sunday - February 2020

Father, you dwell in light that is unapproachable; that you are the immortal, the only wise God. That you are inaccessible to us on our own; through our own efforts and through our own ways of approaching you, Lord, we fall short. But you have opened up a way, you have provided a means by which we can access your throne room, that we can approach you, not on the basis of our own righteousness but on the basis of another. We thank you for what our Lord Jesus Christ has done for us; that he has opened up a door, Lord, so that we can come to you; that we can worship you through our minds and through our hearts; we can address you as our father and bring our requests before you and lay them at your feet. We can ask that you would be our constant help in our times of need. We can ask that your grace would be enough for us to go through the trials and the difficulties that we face. We know, Lord, that apart from your fatherhood, we have no existence and no name; that we would just be estranged wanderers living in a world that is full of darkness, but you have delighted to create a family; a family that bears your name and that has all things in common because we share in your son.

I thank you, Lord, for the people you’ve brought together here, down in this little valley; for those you have gathered from the outskirts and brought in; brought to yourself. We thank you for what you’re doing in our midst. We do delight, Lord, to be knit together as brothers and sisters in Christ; that we would strive side by side for the sake of your name and for each other’s own growth and maturity; for our own understanding of the gospel and how it should shape every aspect of our lives. So, we thank you for what you are doing and we ask that through your spirit we would endeavor to work together; to not forsake meeting together but to do so willingly and often; that we would encourage one another and spur one another on to maturity, love, and good works that honor you and display the grace that we’ve been given in Christ. So help us, Lord; help us as we endeavor to do this, as we meet together as men in our bible study, that you would be working this out on our lives as we learn to love each other; as we learn to encourage each other, and that we learn to spend time in your word together. We pray also for the women’s study that meets here frequently, not only from people of this church but also from others. We pray that you would be working in their midst; we know that it’s been a very rich time with them to get to know one another; to share, to laugh, to cry together, and to know what it is you’re doing in their lives. So we pray that their meetings would continue to be tender, encouraging, and uplifting and that you would be helping these women to help each other move closer to you and to grow.

We pray also for the upcoming women’s retreat as we partner with ‘Christ The Redeemer’; that this would be a refreshing time for the women who meet; that new friendships would be formed and existing friendships would be deepened and strengthened, and that in this, you would equip these women to be competent workers for you, for the harvest. Workers who tend the flock and keep things going in the right direction. We thank you for the contributions of these women we’ve had here and the contributions we expect them to continue to have. May they complete the work that has been started and initiated and begun by them; that they would bring things together in a way that causes us to flourish and reflects your beauty. We pray that everybody here would have a part to play in what you’re doing; that they would see themselves as valuable and equal in Christ, and as honoring to you.

We pray for those who have health needs; we ask, Lord, that you would be gracious to *** as he undergoes surgery tomorrow, as far as I know. We thank you for keeping him until this time; we know that he has been tired and his energy has been very low. We pray that this will be a successful surgery and a speedy recovery and that he would be soon restored to his active self, and most importantly that he would be drawing close to you in the midst of this. So be gracious to him and ***, we ask. We also want to lift up to you ***, who has been recently diagnosed with prostate cancer. We pray for his healing; we pray for you to be working in his heart; we’re not sure where he is with you, Lord, but we pray that he would see this as something that you’re involved with, that you know about and that you’ve brought into his life, for his good. So help him to draw near to you. We pray for the doctors to diagnose correctly, and the best treatments and actions would take place.

We thank you, Lord, and love you. We delight to learn from you, and to encourage each other today, and to spend time considering the demands that Jesus placed upon his apostles for what it looks like to follow him. We know it is something that we cannot do on our own. We pray that as we follow in their footsteps; the very footsteps of our Lord, that you would give us what it is that we need to do so, and do so faithfully.

We ask all these things for your name’s sake.

Amen
