Salvation Is of the Lord

One of the most humbling and comforting truths in the Christian faith is this: salvation belongs to God. From beginning to end, our hope rests not in what we have done for Him, but in what He has done for us. This truth pulls our eyes away from ourselves and fixes them firmly on the grace and power of God.

The Bible teaches that God is sovereign over all things. He created the world by His word, sustains it by His power, and governs history according to His wise purposes. Nothing unfolds randomly or outside His care—not the rise and fall of nations, nor the ordinary moments of our daily lives. The God who rules the universe is also the God who watches over His people.

That same sovereignty extends to salvation. Scripture describes the human heart as fallen and unable to rescue itself. Left to ourselves, we would not seek God or choose what is truly good. If we are to be saved, it must be because God acts first in mercy and grace. Salvation is not something we earn or achieve; it is something we receive with empty hands.

The apostle Paul reminds us in Romans 8:28–30 that God’s saving work stretches from beginning to end. Those whom God foreknew, He also predestined, called, justified, and will one day glorify. Every step of salvation is God’s work. This means our confidence does not rest on our strength, consistency, or resolve, but on God’s faithfulness to keep His promises.

This truth humbles us, because it leaves no room for pride. We cannot boast in ourselves or look down on others. Yet it also comforts us deeply. God does not merely make salvation possible—He secures it. What God begins, He finishes. What He promises, He fulfills.

For those facing suffering, fear, or uncertainty, this doctrine provides solid ground beneath our feet. If God did not spare His own Son but gave Him up for us, we can trust Him with our future. No accusation can stand against those He has justified, no hardship is wasted, and nothing can separate God’s people from His love in Christ.

Salvation is of the Lord—and that is very good news. Join us at Elk Community Church this year as we worship the God who saves sinners in Christ.
